Seton Catholic Responds to OC Federal Credit Union Challenge, Raises $2,930 for the Children’s Hunger Alliance of Cleveland

June 3, 2021

Congratulations to the 8th grade students at Seton Catholic School in Hudson for successfully completing the OC Federal Credit Union Challenge Grant Program.  OC Federal Credit Union developed the Catholic School Challenge Grant Program to support its mission of supporting Catholic education and to encourage students to work collaboratively and multiply the gifts provided by God.

Participating schools agree to have the students listen to a presentation on The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30), which serves as the basis for the grant program.  At the end of the presentation, students are presented with $500 from OC Federal Credit Union and challenged to develop a plan to use their God-given gifts and talents to multiply this gift from God.  The students then select a non-profit organization to receive all of the proceeds from the Catholic School Challenge Grant Program.

Seton’s 8th grade students stepped up to the challenge and used their $500 to organize two Dairy Queen Blizzard sales during lunch periods, and also planned and executed a carnival that saw more than one hundred-fifty students, ranging from preschool to 5th grade, come out for an afternoon of fun.

They turned the original $500 into $2,930 and then donated the money to the Children’s Hunger Alliance of Cleveland. In The Parable of the Talents, the good and faithful servants doubled their master’s talents.  Seton Catholic students, however, multiplied the amount they were originally given nearly six times, despite all the obstacles from the COVID pandemic year.  Well done, Seton Catholic!

Catholic Development & Outreach Coordinator Dean Robinson presents the Catholic School Challenge Grant Program check to students at Seton School in Hudson.

In the past five years, 26 schools have turned the initial $13,000 grant awards into more than $60,000 in donations for local non-profit organizations.  The response to the OC Federal Credit Union Challenge Grant Program has been overwhelmingly positive from teachers, administrators, students, and participating non-profit organizations.  If you would like more information, please contact:
